Founded by Juan de Marcos Gonzalez, the Afro Cuban All Stars were one of the first tastes of Cuban music that the free world had experienced. Their style is a mixture of traditional son, Afro-Cuban jazz, guajira, timba and many more drawing upon tribal traditions and the work of Benny More. The Afro Cuban All Stars features members from Cuba's leading bands and captures the flavor of the great big bands of the 1950s. The Afro Cuban All-Stars delivers an exciting big band sound. Their repertoire includes every genre of Cuban music from changui to son montuno, from guaguanco to la timba. The Afro Cuban All-Stars features the singers Felix Baloy, Teresita Caturla, Luis Frank and Manuel Licea. The unparalleled harmonies and vocal arrangements of the Afro Cuban All-Stars are a hybrid of the best in Cuba featuring Crisol (featuring Chucho Valdes and Roy Hargrove), The Buena Vista Social Club, Sierra Maestra, Irazu and many others. Juan de Marcos, artistic coordinator of the Buena Vista Social Club and former musical director of Sierra Maestra, considered a musical genius has successfully translated the excitement and quality of the group's talents on two compact discs A Toda Cuba le Gusta and Distinto Diferente widely available on World Circuit Records. |
